Mains electricity is delivered at 230 volts to our homes to within a range of +10% / - 6%. In other words, it is delivered within a range of 253 volts to 216.2 volts.
Agreement in Europe - 1994
230 volts is a nominal value agreed with the rest of Europe in 1994 that enables the UK to be harmonised with them. Prior to this agreement, UK electricity was delivered at a nominal 240 volts.
